The Contraverts

Max Cappleman is a native to Austin. He came to a Wednesday night contra dance almost twenty years ago and fell in love with the dance, the music, and the fiddle. He's been playing fiddle with the sweet touch of a self-taught musician, but within the last four or five years, he has been wowing us with his banjo.

Sean Kelly is from Colorado, although he has lived in Austin for five years. He started playing double bass as a teenager, and he also plays guitar and electric bass. He is now trying to learn the violin. He has been playing for contra dances for 20 years.

Stewart Rose grew up in Tennessee and picked up his brother's guitar when he was taking lessons. So, at the age of 10, Stewart was getting ready for the Austin contra dance scene without even knowing it.

Pamela Weems grew up all over because her father was in the army. She started playing the piano in Germany and continued through college. In 2006 she attended the O'Flaherty's Irish Music Retreat and sat in on Allison Hick's keyboard class. Since Minette McKenna moved away to Dallas, Pamela has been playing at the Hancock and in San Marcos and for waltz sessions.
